CRRC Light Rail Fleet Powers Mexico’s Soccer Tournament Transit
A fleet of 115 Chinese-manufactured light rail vehicles is currently moving over 1.25 million passengers daily across Mexico City, Monterrey, and Guadalajara. As the country hosts the global soccer tournament, these trains serve as the primary transit backbone for fans traveling to match venues, including the iconic Estadio Azteca.

The CRRC-developed trains are engineered to withstand Mexico’s specific geographic challenges, including high-altitude operation and heavy seasonal rainfall. In Mexico City, the vehicles feature enhanced regenerative braking and noise-reduction systems to manage the intense demand of match days. Monterrey’s Line 1 has undergone significant control system upgrades to boost energy efficiency, while Guadalajara’s Line 4 expansion provides critical links to Estadio Akron, effectively reducing congestion in densely populated southern districts.
To ensure operational stability during the tournament, CRRC has deployed a dedicated team of senior service engineers and established a 24/7 technical support network. This three-tier response mechanism monitors performance in real-time, addressing potential mechanical issues before they impact transit schedules. Beyond infrastructure, the company is hosting a "Green Energy Station" initiative at key stops to educate fans on low-carbon mobility, reinforcing the project’s focus on sustainable transport solutions during the event.
