Digital Frontline: Gallipoli Campaign Recreated for Global Gaming
At the historic Seddülbahir Fortress in Çanakkale, the Directorate of Gallipoli Historical Site and developer BlackMill Games have unveiled a collaborative project to transport the 1915 campaign into the digital sphere. The partnership leverages archival data and LIDAR scans to transform the battlefield into an immersive, high-fidelity gaming experience.

The project, titled Gallipoli, is scheduled for a worldwide release on August 20. Moving beyond standard combat mechanics, the game reconstructs key locations including Anzac Cove, Ariburnu, and Kumkale with strict adherence to historical documentation. By providing BlackMill Games with 3D spatial data and technical datasets, the Directorate aims to ensure that the digital landscape serves as an educational bridge, allowing players to navigate the same geography where the original conflict unfolded 111 years ago.
İsmail Kaşdemir, President of the Directorate, emphasized the potential for gaming to engage younger generations with the history of the region. For BlackMill Games CEO Jos Hoebe, the initiative represents a fusion of academic rigor and interactive media. The developers have integrated period-authentic weaponry, military uniforms, and trench systems, aiming to present the Gallipoli Front not merely as a simulation of war, but as an accessible component of global historical memory.
