Nintendo says it is not considering another Switch 2 price increase

Nintendo has no plans to raise the Switch 2’s price again for now, president Shuntaro Furukawa said on the company’s latest earnings call, according to Reuters. The console’s starting price rose by $50 earlier this year to $499.

Furukawa also addressed the shortage of memory chips, saying there had been “no major change to the memory situation” and that Nintendo could secure sufficient quantities. The company reported Thursday that Switch 2 sales were down 37.4 percent year over year.

The supply outlook comes as one of Nintendo’s Switch 2 cartridge suppliers announced earlier this week that it plans to stop making ROM memory and shift its focus to memory for data centers. Demand from AI data centers is driving ongoing RAM shortages and contributing to price increases across the technology sector.

Microsoft has raised prices for Xbox Series X and Series S consoles multiple times, taking the Series S’s starting price from $299 to $499. Sony has also increased PS5 prices; the console now starts at $649.
