Democrats demand records of Trump’s consultations with Grok AI
Two senior House Democrats are demanding that President Donald Trump preserve all records of his interactions with artificial intelligence chatbots, specifically investigating whether Elon Musk’s Grok influenced the planning of the military operation that led to the kidnapping of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro earlier this year.

Rep. Jamie Raskin and Rep. Robert Garcia sent a formal letter to the White House on Thursday, seeking confirmation on whether Trump utilized the AI tool to gauge public reaction to the capture of the Venezuelan leader. The inquiry follows reports that the president spent hours consulting the chatbot during a secret meeting with Elon Musk in December 2025. According to the lawmakers, the technology reportedly advised Trump that Maduro was a deeply unpopular figure whose removal would be widely celebrated.
The committee members argue that relying on an error-prone, potentially biased AI for military deployment decisions constitutes a severe breach of constitutional norms and national security. They contend that the use of such tools effectively bypasses Congressional oversight while exposing the administration to manipulation by unaccountable third parties. The letter explicitly classifies all AI-generated prompts and outputs as presidential records that must be preserved under federal law.
In addition to the preservation request, the representatives have demanded a closed-door briefing on the administration's use of AI in foreign policy. They have set a deadline of November 11 for the White House to provide written responses regarding the scope of these interactions, citing significant concerns over the security of the decision-making process and the influence of private actors on official government actions.
