X deploys an aggressive digital hand to push paid post promotion

An unsettling, animated arm is reaching across screens on X, physically pointing users toward the platform’s “promote” button. The jarring visual appears mid-composition, turning a routine task into a high-pressure sales pitch that has left many subscribers stunned by its intrusive design and uncanny execution.

The feature, which mimics a physical hand intruding on the user interface, is currently restricted to X Premium subscribers. While Elon Musk recently declared a crackdown on “ugly” or “shrill” advertising, this automated promotion tool has triggered the opposite reaction. Users have taken to social media to voice their frustration, with investor Sheel Mohnot describing a visceral hatred for the screen takeover, while others compared the animation to a bizarre Halloween prank.

Promoting a post on X allows users to bypass their existing follower count to target specific demographics or locations. Although these promoted entries are marked with standard ad labels, the method of soliciting this engagement has shifted from passive sidebar prompts to an active, disruptive animation that interrupts the creative process. For now, the feature remains a selective experience, though its arrival has sparked immediate backlash regarding the platform's increasingly aggressive monetization tactics.
