Cambridge-based 4basebio and Indianapolis-headquartered Genezen have launched a strategic collaboration to integrate synthetic, cell-free DNA technology into viral vector manufacturing. By replacing traditional plasmid methods with enzymatically produced hpDNA, the partnership aims to accelerate development timelines and reduce material costs for cell and gene therapy programs.

The alliance allows drug developers to utilize 4basebio’s Research Use Only, High-Quality, and GMP-grade hpDNA across Genezen’s contract development and manufacturing infrastructure. This technical integration addresses persistent bottlenecks in gene therapy production by removing bacterial backbone sequences and antibiotic resistance genes from the DNA starting material.

Data indicates that 4basebio’s hpDNA templates achieve titers comparable to traditional plasmid DNA while requiring 30% less DNA mass and transfection reagent. These efficiency gains are designed to support scalability from early-stage research through commercial manufacturing, providing a more reliable foundation for clinical programs as the industry shifts toward synthetic alternatives.
