Illinois American Water Opens 2026 Grant Cycle for Fire Departments
With over 1,150 grants awarded since 2010, Illinois American Water has launched its 2026 application cycle, offering financial support to emergency response units. The utility company is inviting fire departments within its service territories to secure funding for essential gear, specialized training, and critical firefighting infrastructure.
The program provides awards of up to $1,000 to help local agencies offset costs for protective equipment, communication tools, and water-handling technology. According to Rebecca Losli, President of Illinois American Water, the initiative serves as a direct investment in public safety by equipping first responders with the resources necessary for daily operations. Eligible departments may apply for one grant annually, provided they operate within the company's service footprint.
Applicants must submit details regarding their specific community needs, project budgets, and implementation timelines through the company's online portal by September 18. The funding covers a range of requirements, including reimbursement for training manuals and workbooks. Illinois American Water, which serves approximately 1.3 million residents across the state, maintains this program as part of its ongoing commitment to supporting local emergency services.
