8849 Debuts TANK 5 Rugged Smartphone Featuring Integrated 2K Projector
Shenzhen-based manufacturer 8849 has unveiled the TANK 5, a flagship rugged smartphone that integrates a 2K DLP projector capable of 220 lumens. Designed for professionals and outdoor enthusiasts, the device attempts to bridge the gap between heavy-duty durability and premium multimedia functionality in demanding environments.
The TANK 5 distinguishes itself from standard rugged handsets through its projection system, which includes instant auto-focus and automatic keystone correction. Under the hood, the device is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 9400e processor and supports Wi-Fi 7, facilitating high-speed data tasks. The hardware runs on Android 16 and features a 3K AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate, hitting a peak brightness of 3,000 nits for outdoor legibility.
To support its specialized hardware, the phone is equipped with a 17,600mAh battery paired with 120W fast charging. The internal configuration offers up to 36GB of RAM and 512GB of storage. Photography is handled by a dual 50MP system, featuring a dedicated night vision sensor for low-light conditions.
