Sony’s LinkBuds Clip offer style but struggle to justify their price
Priced at $229.99, the new Sony LinkBuds Clip enter a crowded market of open-ear audio devices. While they deliver excellent call quality and a comfortable, cuff-like design, they ultimately fail to distinguish themselves from more affordable competitors, lacking premium features expected at this high-end price point.

The LinkBuds Clip wrap around the ear helix, positioning a spherical speaker just outside the canal. While the aesthetic is refined and available in several subdued tones, the fit can feel loose without the included silicone cushions. Once secured, they remain comfortable for an entire workday, though users with larger ears might experience some pinching. Audio performance is generally clear in standard mode, though the open design naturally limits bass response. Using the silicone cushions further distances the speaker from the canal, which unfortunately thins out the sound profile even more.
Call performance is the standout feature, thanks to an AI noise-reduction chip and a bone-conduction sensor that effectively isolate the wearer’s voice from urban background noise. However, the device falls short in other technical areas. The charging case lacks wireless capability, and the earbuds omit high-res LDAC support and audio sharing. Furthermore, the touch-sensitive controls on the band prove finicky, often failing to register inputs while the user is moving. While the companion Sound Connect app offers deep customization and nine hours of battery life, the current price tag makes them a difficult recommendation compared to cheaper alternatives like the Shokz OpenDots One or EarFun Clip.
