AIPAC’s $100 Million Campaign Targets Democratic Progressives

The American Israel Public Affairs Committee’s super PAC is preparing a $100 million spending blitz to unseat progressive and moderate Democrats deemed insufficiently aligned with Israeli government policies. This massive infusion of capital signals an aggressive escalation in the lobby's efforts to purge dissent regarding the ongoing war in Gaza.

The United Democracy Project, AIPAC’s dark money arm, has already demonstrated its intent by targeting California state senator Dave Min. Despite Min’s condemnation of the October 7 attacks, the PAC launched a $4.5 million attack campaign after he privately criticized Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s leadership and settlement policies. Former Michigan Congressman Andy Levin, a victim of a similar $4 million barrage in 2022, warns that few candidates possess the resources to survive such sustained financial assaults.

Critics, including Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Rep. Cori Bush, have characterized the group as a front for conservative interests, pointing to its backing of over 100 GOP lawmakers who supported efforts to overturn the 2020 election. While progressives aim to counter this influence through grassroots mobilization—highlighting successful defenses like that of Rep. Summer Lee in Pennsylvania—the Democratic establishment remains deeply divided. Many party leaders, including House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, have counted AIPAC among their top donors, complicating any unified resistance to the organization’s primary interventions.
