New Jersey Rescue Dog Wins National Makeover Contest

Lucy was discovered in Ewing Township, NJ, suffering from hypothermia after being abandoned outdoors. Following intensive medical treatment at the EASEL Animal Rescue League, the grooming team at Sosa's Spa Paws meticulously cleared away years of neglect to reveal the dog's true health and spirit. This aesthetic and physical recovery proved instrumental in helping her secure a permanent home and earning the top award in the national competition. The win secures $5,000 for the shelter and $5,000 for the groomers, providing essential funding to continue their work with other abandoned animals.

The contest, organized by Wahl and Greater Good Charities, aims to bridge the gap between shelter neglect and adoptability. Two other finalists received prizes for their own successful rehabilitations: Kailey, a severely matted dog from the SPCA of Anne Arundel County in Maryland, took second place, while Dominic, a dog rescued by the Palm Springs Animal Shelter, secured third. These efforts underscore a broader initiative to assist the millions of shelter dogs who struggle to find owners due to poor physical condition, proving that professional grooming is often the first step toward a new life.
