LinkedIn adds automated skill verification for professional software

LinkedIn is rolling out a connected apps feature that automatically generates specific descriptions of how users interact with professional software. By linking tools like HubSpot or Adobe Firefly directly to a profile, users can provide recruiters with verified, real-time proof of their technical proficiency rather than relying on self-reported claims.

The new section integrates earlier collaborations with platforms like Duolingo and Replit, expanding to include 14 additional services such as Buffer and Fiverr. The company plans to bring more tools into the fold, including Adobe Express, GitHub Copilot, and Webflow. These descriptive statements, which detail specific tasks like managing segmented email campaigns or utilizing marketing automation, are generated automatically and cannot be edited by the profile owner.

Senior product manager Kelly Tong confirmed that while these statements update in real time based on usage, they are designed to highlight activity without penalizing users for lower engagement. LinkedIn intends to introduce notification alerts as these statements refresh, ensuring members remain aware of what their profile displays. This initiative aligns with the platform’s broader push toward identity verification and security, aiming to help recruiters filter candidates through concrete, verified experience rather than subjective keywords. CEO Dan Shapero noted that the feature serves as a dual benefit, offering members credible evidence of their capabilities while providing brands with authentic endorsements from active, power users.
