Abbott arrives at the Los Angeles-based nonprofit as it pushes forward with its five-year strategic plan, Mission Magnified, which aims to support 200,000 individuals annually. His background balances direct rehabilitation instruction with high-level fiscal management. At his most recent post as CEO of The Lighthouse for the Blind in Seattle, he managed a $95 million organization and oversaw a workforce of 425 people, more than half of whom are blind or DeafBlind.

His career trajectory reflects a deep commitment to accessibility and workforce integration. Starting as a rehabilitation instructor for the Idaho Commission for the Blind, he later transitioned to the Department of Veterans Affairs, where he specialized in training blinded veterans on adaptive computer technologies. This blend of grassroots instruction and executive oversight at organizations like The Hadley School for the Blind is expected to shape the Braille Institute’s upcoming digital expansion and program development efforts.
