Fox Corporation eyes Roku acquisition to dominate streaming
With plans to acquire Roku by next year, Fox Corporation CEO Lachlan Murdoch aims to secure direct access to 100 million households. If the deal closes, the combined entity would emerge as the third-largest player in U.S. television by viewing share, fundamentally altering how consumers navigate their streaming content.

Murdoch views the platform as the missing piece in his long-standing battle for streaming supremacy. After acquiring Tubi in 2020 and launching a dedicated subscription service for news and live sports, Fox intends to position Roku as a primary gateway for its broader media portfolio. While Murdoch publicly claims the platform will remain partner-friendly and open, the strategy involves prioritizing Fox-branded content directly on the Roku homepage.
Anthony Wood, Roku’s founder and CEO, is aligned with this shift, suggesting a significant change in the user experience. Although Murdoch plans to operate the companies as separate entities for now, the consolidation signals a push to steer viewers toward Fox-owned assets. This merger represents a concentrated effort to control the interface itself, potentially reshaping the digital landscape without users noticing the transition in their daily viewing habits.
