WaterField Designs Debuts Premium Gramercy Leather Sling

San Francisco-based manufacturer WaterField Designs is moving away from the technical nylon fabrics that dominate the compact carry market with its new Gramercy Leather Sling. Handcrafted from full-grain Roughman leather, the two-liter bag aims to bridge the gap between utilitarian convenience and the aesthetic requirements of more formal environments.

The sling measures 8.5 by 6 by 2.5 inches and features a structured silhouette designed to hold essentials like an iPhone, wallet, and glasses. To differentiate the piece from standard crossbody bags, the company incorporated Ultrasuede-lined pockets intended to prevent surface scratches on sensitive devices. A distinct paragliding buckle secures the front flap, providing a tactical hardware accent that contrasts with the refined leather exterior.

Founder Gary Waterfield noted that the design was born from a need for a compact carrier that transitions seamlessly between casual errands and dressier outings. Beyond its exterior, the bag includes a gold-lined interior for increased visibility and a dedicated key tether. The product retails for $309 and is available in Black, Chocolate, and Grizzly leather options, with water-repellent zippers included to provide protection against environmental exposure.
