Goldman Sachs names largest partner class since 2010

Goldman Sachs promoted 109 executives to partner, its largest class since 2010, with new appointments taking effect in January. The group is 15% larger than the 95 executives promoted in 2024 and reflects a growing emphasis on engineering and technology, the bank said.

The bank said it will have more than 500 partners once the promotions take effect, representing about 1% of its workforce. Goldman selects partners every two years, typically in early November. One executive said the class reflects CEO David Solomon and senior leaders’ view of the firm’s direction; technological expertise and interest in AI also factored into promotions across roles.

Engineers accounted for 13 promotions, the highest number Goldman has recorded. Asset and Wealth Management supplied 30% of the class, also a record. Overall, 85% of the new partners work in revenue-producing roles, including 33 in Asset and Wealth Management. The group spans a record 21 offices, and about 43% are based outside the Americas.

The new partners have spent an average of 17 years at the firm. Twenty-eight percent began as interns and 39% joined as campus hires. Goldman did not disclose this year how many women or people of color were promoted, unlike in 2024. It said that from January 1, the firm will have more than 100 female partners for the first time.

Partnership brings financial rewards and influence over the bank’s direction, but selection follows years of work and an internal review process known as “cross-ruffing,” a reference to the card game bridge. The promotions were announced Thursday.
