Sony profit rises 44% as Spider-Man and PlayStation boost earnings
Sony’s net profit reached 449.60 billion yen (about $2.84 billion) in the three months ended September, up 44 percent from a year earlier. The company credited strong results in its PlayStation business and the box-office success of Spider-Man: Brand New Day.

The film, released in July, earned $2.52 billion worldwide, making it the third-highest-grossing movie in history, according to the source. Sony Pictures Entertainment reported earnings of $581 million for the quarter, a 527 percent increase from $93 million in the same period in 2025.
PlayStation 5 console sales fell to 2.6 million units in the second quarter, compared with 4 million in Q2 2025. Sony-exclusive Marvel’s Wolverine sold 2.4 million units against a reported budget of $300 million. Overall PlayStation game sales rose for both digital downloads and physical discs, despite a week-long player blackout in August protesting Sony’s plan to eliminate discs.
Sony CFO Lin Tao said development of the company’s next-generation console was making “solid progress” and was “progressing as scheduled.”
