WhatsApp Adds Smart Shortcuts to Chat Messages
A long-press on specific text within a WhatsApp chat will soon trigger dynamic, context-aware actions. By identifying email addresses, phone numbers, locations, and meeting times, the platform aims to bridge the gap between simple messaging and functional utility, allowing users to initiate tasks without leaving the conversation interface.
The update enables users to interact directly with structured data embedded in messages. Instead of copying and pasting information to separate applications, a simple press on a detected phone number or email address prompts the app to offer immediate options like saving a contact, launching an email client, or scheduling a calendar event.
This functionality is currently reaching iOS and Android users globally. While the rollout has begun, availability remains inconsistent across different accounts and regions. The feature represents a shift toward more integrated workflows, prioritizing speed for users who frequently manage logistics through the messaging platform.
