Gemini Live May Soon Function Without an Active Internet Connection

Google is laying the groundwork for a local version of its Gemini Live assistant on Android. Recent code discovered in the latest beta of the Google app reveals a forthcoming offline mode, potentially allowing users to interact with the AI voice feature even when they are disconnected from the network.

The discovery appeared in version 17.71.17 of the Android Google app, where developers identified specific references to a mode designed to function without data connectivity. While the tagline explicitly promises the ability to use the assistant offline, the underlying technical implementation remains unclear.

It is currently unknown how much of the service’s functionality will survive the transition to local processing. Analysts are particularly curious whether features like camera integration and real-time screen sharing will remain available or if the offline experience will be limited to core voice interactions. Google has not yet confirmed a release timeline for this feature, leaving users to wait for further updates to the beta branch.
