Advocacy Groups Back Impeachment Bid Against Pentagon Chief Pete Hegseth
A coalition of national advocacy groups and constitutional expert Bruce Fein have formally endorsed articles of impeachment against Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth. The move arrives as reports circulate that Hegseth is maneuvering for a Tennessee Senate appointment to preempt potential removal following next week's midterm elections.

Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.) initiated the impeachment effort last month, citing an array of severe allegations against the Pentagon head. The charges include the unauthorized prosecution of war against Iran, the kidnapping of former Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, and the implementation of military policies that disregard civilian safety. Constitutional scholar Bruce Fein joined Free Speech for People, the Removal Coalition, and FLARE USA in backing the resolution, arguing that the Secretary has shown a consistent contempt for the rule of law.
While the Pentagon dismissed reports of Hegseth seeking a Senate seat as political gossip, the pressure on his position is mounting. Recent polling indicates that nearly two-thirds of Democratic voters support his removal, alongside one-fifth of Republicans. The push mirrors a separate impeachment effort led by Rep. Yassamin Ansari (D-Ariz.), which has gained traction among Democrats as the geopolitical fallout from the Iran conflict intensifies. Supporters of the movement insist that the articles of impeachment provide a necessary mechanism for Congress to hold the administration accountable for alleged abuses of executive power.
