Google integrates personal data into Gemini for Android Auto

Drivers can now access their Gmail, Calendar, and Photos through Gemini in Android Auto, transforming the dashboard into a personalized assistant. By enabling the new Personal Intelligence setting, users can query flight statuses or navigate to specific locations based on private data stored across their Google ecosystem.

The integration allows the AI to parse confirmation emails or reference images to streamline travel. Instead of manually inputting addresses, a driver might ask the assistant to find a car wash from a recent photo or check a flight time pulled directly from an inbox. This functionality marks a significant expansion from the basic assistant features introduced when Gemini first arrived on the platform last year.

Google maintains that these capabilities remain strictly opt-in. If the Personal Intelligence setting is disabled, the system continues to handle standard tasks like navigation, music streaming, and voice calls, but without access to the user's private data. This update begins rolling out to Android Auto today, with support for vehicles featuring Google built-in—including models from Ford, GM, Honda, Nissan, Volvo, and Polestar—expected in the coming months.
