Fulton County Grand Jury Poised to Hear Georgia Election Case

Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis is set to begin presenting her 2020 election interference case against Donald Trump to a grand jury early next week. The move signals an imminent charging decision in the investigation, which centers on efforts to overturn the former president's narrow defeat in Georgia.

Former Georgia Lieutenant Governor Geoff Duncan and independent journalist George Chidi confirmed Saturday they were subpoenaed to testify before the grand jury on Tuesday. Duncan, a Republican who broke with Trump following the 2020 election, told CNN he intends to recount the facts regarding the events that transpired during that cycle. Chidi, who previously documented an unauthorized meeting of GOP electors at the state Capitol, also confirmed his scheduled appearance.

The inquiry stems from a January 2, 2021, phone call in which Trump pressured Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger to "find 11,780 votes" to flip the state results. Trump, currently campaigning in Iowa, dismissed the investigation on Truth Social as a "witch hunt" and maintained that his call to state officials was appropriate. If indicted, this would mark the fourth criminal case brought against the former president this year, following federal charges related to the January 6 Capitol attack, the handling of classified documents, and a Manhattan investigation into hush money payments.
