Square Debuts AI-Powered Kiosk for Conversational Ordering

Customers approaching the new Square Kiosk are greeted by a 21.5-inch touchscreen and an artificial intelligence agent designed to simulate human interaction. The hardware, which hits the market today, aims to replace rigid digital menus with a conversational interface that understands complex requests, substitutions, and specific menu modifications.

The device features a distinct pill-shaped design equipped with presence detection to initiate contact as patrons arrive. Once engaged, the integrated voice layer processes natural language in real time, allowing users to pose questions or adjust their orders without navigating through layered digital menus. When the interaction concludes, the kiosk accommodates payments via a built-in contactless reader and card slot.

Square is positioning this hardware as a premium upgrade, pricing the kiosk at $1,999. Access is restricted to businesses already utilizing Square Plus or Premium subscription tiers, and operators must also pay a recurring software fee of $99 per device each month.
