Zocdoc Makes First Acquisition in Two Decades With Sohar Health
After two decades of organic growth, New York-based Zocdoc has acquired Sohar Health to automate complex insurance verification. The transaction, which finalized on October 2, integrates Sohar’s specialized technology directly into Zocdoc’s infrastructure, aiming to eliminate administrative friction for patients and providers navigating fragmented coverage requirements at the point of booking.

The acquisition formalizes a partnership that began in 2025, when Zocdoc selected Sohar to streamline eligibility checks. Sohar’s platform distinguishes itself by verifying coverage and network status using minimal patient data, such as a name and date of birth, rather than requiring exhaustive manual input. This capability has already supported millions of insurance verifications across the Zocdoc marketplace over the past year.
For Zocdoc, the move supports the broader rollout of its Care Access Network, which embeds the company’s booking infrastructure into third-party platforms like Amazon Health AI, Yelp, and Healthgrades. By bringing Sohar in-house, Zocdoc intends to scale these verification tools across its entire partner network. Sohar will continue to operate under its existing name and maintain its current customer relationships, which include organizations like BetterHelp and Talkiatry. According to Zocdoc CEO Oliver Kharraz, the integration addresses a critical systemic barrier, as research from KFF suggests that half of insured adults struggle to decipher their own coverage benefits.
