Gates Targets Warehouse Efficiency With New Polyurethane Roller Belt

Five times the lifespan of conventional fabric belts: Gates Industrial Corporation is betting its new IntraLogix LRB-100 will solve persistent maintenance headaches in high-speed distribution centers. By swapping traditional layered materials for a homogeneous polyurethane design, the manufacturer aims to eliminate delamination and significantly reduce conveyor system downtime.

The LRB-100 enters a logistics market strained by surging e-commerce volumes and the constant, near-continuous demands of automated fulfillment. Because conveyor performance dictates the speed of the entire operation, Gates designed this belt to address specific mechanical failure points. Testing shows the polyurethane construction provides roughly 80% greater abrasion resistance and 75% less elongation than standard options, allowing systems to maintain proper tension with minimal human intervention.

Mike Haen, vice president of global product line management at Gates, noted that the product serves as a direct response to the rising bar for industrial components. Beyond durability, the belt offers 24% greater weld strength and 73% lower drive tensions, metrics intended to lower the total cost of ownership for warehouse operators. The LRB-100 is now available in the United States, expanding the existing IntraLogix portfolio as the company continues to pivot its materials science expertise toward automation-driven markets.
