Par Health Recalls Argatroban Injection Over Particulate Contamination

Par Health has initiated a nationwide recall of 22 lots of Argatroban Injection after discovering foreign particulate matter in the vials. The contamination includes cellulose, plastic fragments, and traces of stainless steel, posing severe health risks to patients receiving the anticoagulant medication in hospital settings across the United States.

The recalled medication, a direct thrombin inhibitor used to treat heparin-induced thrombocytopenia, was distributed to wholesalers and hospitals between December 30, 2024, and May 5, 2026. Experts warn that injecting these particles could lead to life-threatening complications, including pulmonary emboli, organ damage from vessel occlusion, and dangerous inflammation of the vein walls.

While the company has reported no adverse events to date, the potential for harm remains significant. Par Health is now coordinating with Inmar, Inc. to retrieve all affected inventory. Pharmacies and medical facilities are directed to halt use of the product immediately and return existing stock. Questions regarding the return process should be directed to Inmar, Inc., while clinical concerns should be reported directly to the manufacturer or via the FDA’s MedWatch program.
