Oneworld Revamps Event Booking as Industry Shifts Toward Human Connection

The alliance’s updated product provides planners access to preferential fares across its 15 member airlines, which currently serve nearly 1,000 destinations. By offering a dedicated booking link for attendees, the platform allows delegates to manage their own itineraries while still benefiting from group-rate structures. Roger Blackburn, vice president of Commercial and Loyalty at Oneworld, noted at IMEX Las Vegas that the platform addresses the growing demand for in-person collaboration that digital tools struggle to replicate.

Beyond logistics, the underlying research highlights a fundamental shift in how global meetings will function by 2030. The report identifies "The Human Premium" as a primary driver, where face-to-face interaction is increasingly viewed as a scarce professional currency in an AI-dominated world. Other forces, such as "Destination as Content" and "Experience-First Events," suggest that conferences are shifting away from passive participation toward immersive, festival-style engagement. As travel costs rise, organizers are under pressure to justify the return on investment for attendees, prioritizing high-value outcomes over simple headcount. According to Globetrender CEO Jenny Southan, the most successful events in the coming years will be those that provide a compelling reason for the journey and a meaningful experience to take home.
