Anantara Opens First African Safari Lodge in Zambia’s Kafue Park
Suspended 14.3 metres above the Zambian wilderness, the newly opened Anantara Tented Camp Kafue River marks the brand’s debut in Africa. The 13-key off-grid property blends modern design with conservation-focused safari experiences, positioning itself within the 22,480-square-kilometre Kafue National Park as it undergoes a significant ecological restoration.

The camp operates on a low-impact model, utilizing solar power and advanced water purification to maintain its presence in one of the continent's least explored regions. Architectural choices prioritize the environment, with rosewood platforms elevating structures to protect essential wildlife corridors. Designed by Meg Ralph Spaces, the interiors incorporate organic textures and colors sourced from the surrounding landscape, including Marula and Jackalberry trees.
The property offers a range of accommodations, from Pool and Bush Villas to the signature Horizon Terrace Suites. These elevated suites, accessed by a glass elevator, feature open-air living spaces and star beds. Beyond the rooms, guests have access to a floating fitness platform and pontoon dining on the Kafue River, allowing for unobtrusive wildlife observation. Experiences are curated in partnership with African Parks, focusing on the ongoing rewilding of the area, which has recently seen the reintroduction of antelopes and other species across the floodplains.
