NBA Legend Mitch Richmond Visits Macau Schools to Promote Youth Sports
NBA Hall of Famer Mitch Richmond joined Sands China executives at Yuet Wah College today, bringing professional basketball coaching and cultural exchange to 600 local students. The event, part of the annual NBA Cares x Sands Cares Community Impact Week, focused on mentoring championship-winning school teams and fostering cross-cultural connections.
The visit featured a high-intensity basketball clinic where Richmond and NBA coaches provided technical guidance to the boys’ squads from Yuet Wah College and Colégio Dom Bosco. These teams, fresh off local championship victories, received hands-on training aimed at refining their competitive skills. Beyond the court, the program emphasized cultural immersion; Richmond participated in a Chinese calligraphy session, practicing traditional brushwork alongside students. To solidify the partnership, Sands China and the NBA donated athletic equipment and inaugurated a dedicated 'Basketball Corner' on campus, designed to serve as a hub for student recreation and social interaction.
Dr. Wilfred Wong, executive vice chairman of Sands China, noted that the initiative aligns with the company’s broader efforts to leverage international events for local youth development. Principal Ng Teng Kuong echoed this sentiment, highlighting the value of exposing students to world-class athletes to encourage a positive mindset. The five-day Community Impact Week continues through October 11, with subsequent events scheduled to address community health and wellness across Macau.
