Heffernan Insurance Brokers Expands Northwest Footprint with KMi Buyout
After five decades of operation in Washington, independent agency Kristin Manwaring Insurance Associates has been absorbed by Heffernan Insurance Brokers. The acquisition, which officially took effect May 1, marks a strategic push by the Walnut Creek-based firm to deepen its service capacity within the Pacific Northwest region.

Kristin Manwaring, who took ownership of the Port Townsend agency in 2006, transitioned her entire team to the Heffernan platform as part of the deal. The firm brings a diverse portfolio to the partnership, specializing in employee benefits, Medicare, and individual financial protection solutions. Manwaring cited shared values regarding client relationships as the primary driver for joining the larger brokerage.
F. Michael Heffernan, CEO of Heffernan Insurance Brokers, noted that the move is part of a broader strategy to scale through the acquisition of established, privately held independent brokers nationwide. By integrating KMi, Heffernan gains localized expertise in Washington, reinforcing its broader mission to provide customized insurance solutions across various industries. The company continues to seek similar partnerships to fuel its national expansion.
