H.I.G. Capital Secures First Institutional Stake in HBK

H.I.G. Capital has reached an agreement to acquire a strategic stake in HBK, marking the accounting and advisory firm’s first move toward institutional partnership. The deal, expected to close in late 2026, grants the $75 billion investment firm a foothold in a practice managing assets across 27 offices.

The partnership preserves HBK’s existing leadership, with current partners retaining control over the firm’s culture and day-to-day operations. HBK, which traces its origins to 1949, operates as an integrated group including HBK CPAs & Consultants, HBKS Wealth Advisors, and the technology practice Vertilocity. By bringing in H.I.G. as a backer, the firm aims to accelerate growth and scale its resources for clients ranging from family-owned businesses to high-net-worth individuals.

To satisfy regulatory requirements for audit services, HBK will implement an alternative practice structure before the transaction closes. Under this model, the attest and audit arm, Hill, Barth & King LLC, will remain owned and controlled by its CPA partners. Meanwhile, the firm’s tax, advisory, and wealth management lines will fall under the new structure, ensuring that existing client relationships and advisor teams remain intact throughout the transition. Financial terms of the investment remain undisclosed.
