New Jersey Teamsters Back Bipartisan Congressional Slate

The endorsement list features incumbents who stood against significant pressure from corporate lobbyists to advance the legislation. Among those receiving the nod are Senator Cory Booker and Representative Donald Norcross, both of whom played central roles in crafting the bill. Norcross, who chairs the Congressional Labor Caucus, has long aligned himself with union interests, including his work on the Butch-Lewis Act. The group also includes Republicans Jeff Van Drew and Chris Smith, signaling that the union is prioritizing legislative track records over party affiliation.

Al Rispoli, President of Teamsters Joint Council 73, emphasized that the union’s 50,000 members in the state are unified in rewarding those who protected their interests. The Faster Labor Contracts Act, which cleared the House in June, aims to be the most consequential labor reform in eight decades by streamlining how newly organized workers secure their first contracts. With the November elections approaching, the Teamsters are positioning this coalition as a primary defense against challenges to federal collective bargaining rights.
