The digital landscape, populated by social media influencers and AI chatbots, has turned routine health management into a precarious task. According to the Akron Children’s survey, 17% of caregivers have altered their healthcare approach due to this confusion. Among those who shifted tactics, many sought second opinions or switched primary care doctors, while others delayed vaccinations or turned to alternative, non-medical treatments.

Dr. Shefali Mahesh, pediatrician in chief at Akron Children’s, warns that this environment forces parents to second-guess their own instincts. Despite the rise of digital noise, 90% of caregivers still prioritize their personal doctors and research-backed expertise. Parents are now calling for children’s hospitals to serve as primary filters for this information, favoring clear, empathetic, and actionable guidance over the current deluge of competing data. In response, Akron Children’s has launched its 'Healthy Info, Healthy Kids' initiative to provide families with vetted, evidence-based resources.
