Martin Guitar Unveils Joe Bonamassa Signature 00-18 Models

Blues-rock icon Joe Bonamassa is bringing the aesthetic and sonic character of his prized 1937 Martin 00-18 to the mass market, collaborating with the historic Pennsylvania manufacturer on two new signature acoustic guitars that mirror the wear and tonal profile of his original pre-war instrument.

The collaboration introduces a handcrafted model built in Nazareth, Pennsylvania, and a second, more accessible version produced at Martin’s facility in Navojoa, Mexico. Both instruments feature a custom 1937-style sunburst finish and meticulously replicated top wear, designed to mimic the appearance of a guitar that has spent decades on the road. For the Nazareth-built 00-18, Martin utilizes a solid spruce top paired with genuine mahogany back and sides, complemented by Golden Era scalloped X-bracing. Bonamassa noted that during studio testing, his producer even favored the prototype over his authentic vintage instrument.

Targeting a wider range of players, the 00-10E Retro model replaces the mahogany with solid sapele and incorporates a Performing Artist neck profile for modern playability. To ensure versatility for live performance, this version comes equipped with Martin E1 electronics, featuring an integrated chromatic tuner and phase controls. Bonamassa personally vetted the onboard system in live settings before finalizing the production design. Both guitars are currently available through authorized Martin dealers and the company’s website.
