Amnesty Report Links US-Supplied Weapons to Potential War Crimes in Gaza

The report identifies specific attacks where Israel utilized Boeing-made GBU-39 Small Diameter Bombs and Joint Direct Attack Munitions. In four separate strikes in Rafah during December and January, at least 95 civilians were killed, including 42 children. According to the human rights group, these residential buildings lacked any clear status as legitimate military objectives, suggesting direct strikes on civilian populations.

Amanda Klasing, Amnesty’s national director for government relations, stated that the evidence demonstrates a clear violation of both international humanitarian law and U.S. policy. The organization argues that the Biden administration must immediately suspend arms transfers to comply with federal statutes, including the Foreign Assistance Act. This call comes as a coalition of over 90 legal professionals—including 20 current administration employees—prepares to warn Attorney General Merrick Garland that ongoing military support likely breaches the Arms Export Control Act and the Geneva Conventions.

Despite public assertions from the White House that it accepts Israel’s claims of legality, internal dissent is intensifying. Senior officials have reportedly informed Secretary of State Antony Blinken that Israel lacks credibility in its adherence to international standards. One Department of Justice staffer involved in the coalition letter noted that the current administration remains largely unaware of the extent of opposition among its own rank-and-file personnel regarding continued material support for the conflict.
