Karen Fang, the bank's global head of infrastructure and sustainable finance, noted that the unprecedented capital requirements across these sectors demand a sense of urgency. The firm joins JPMorgan and Morgan Stanley, both of which have previously announced $1.5 trillion plans centered on national security, innovation, and strategic supply chains.

Driving this influx of capital is the explosive growth of artificial intelligence, which requires massive energy and data center expansion. Goldman Sachs economists project $581 billion in AI-related investment for this year alone. While these banks market their efforts as a boost to American dominance and manufacturing, the projects remain rooted in commercial viability.
